SSNIT HOLDS 5TH STAKEHOLDERS FORUM
On Thursday the 19th of November 2009, the Management of SSNIT held its Annual Stakeholders Forum at the Adae Kesie Conference Room, La- Palm Royal Beach Hotel to present SSNITs 2008 Annual Report as well as its Audited Accounts.
Mr. Kwame Peprah, the Chairman for the event and also the Chairman of SSNIT Board of Trustees in his address said, that the forum was aimed at improving transparency to enable stakeholders know how Management is investing and managing their contributions and also to provide a medium for enquiries and complaints to be addressed.
In his 2008 Accounts presentation, Mr. Kwasi A. Boatin, Director- General of SSNIT said, last year saw an increment in administration expenses, investment, member registration and new retirees.
Though employers owed SSNIT in contributions, he stated that enforcing compliance, negotiations and prosecution would be used as measures to recover them.
Deloitte and Touche, the external auditors confirmed that SSNIT has kept proper records for its 2008 Annual Report.
Questions asked during the open forum were competently addressed by some General Managers and members of the Board of Trustees.
Suggestions made by some stakeholders were as follows:
- Need to equip staff to face challenges on the New Pensions Scheme
- Make way for contributions to be used as collateral
- Systems should be put in place so that contributors/employers can use internet banking to pay their contributions.
In all, four hundred and fifty (450) stakeholders participated in the forum.
The next Stakeholders Forum has been scheduled for the year 2010.
